Spirit of the Wolf Oil Print
Spirit of the Wolf Oil Print by William Zierfus. The original painting was donated by me to the War On Wolves back in February of 2014 as a fundraiser on a project to save the gray wolves. I turned in my commission to help the organization to raise money in their cause and this particular painting (I did a few) was purchased for a little over $12k at an auction. All money that was accrued from the purchase went towards their cause (I really love wolves). As you can see, the Spirit of the Wolf lives in this painting. I tried capturing the true spirit of the wolf and why they are important to me. The blues represent the spiritual connection of the wolf which is tied to nature and the nighttime. The yellow represents their diminishing numbers and the darks represent the terrible atrocities befalling them in current times. My representation of the wolf got a lot of recognition back then, but I was just happy to donate this work for that particular cause. I was also happy that it was purchased for that amount because the profits would go towards something I truly believed in.
