Celebrating Female Artists - Marianne North was a 19th century English Victorian painter. She was a true trailblazer for women artists. Unheard of at the time for women, Marianne often traveled the world alone, especially in the far reaches such as Java, Brazilian jungles, South African swamps, India, etc in search of exotic plants. She documented them in words and paintings. She had over 800 paintings and discovered some plants unheard of in science at the time.
