The Brazilian porcupine (Coendou prehensilis) inhabits tropical forests at elevations up to 1500 m. The Brazilian porcupine has a broad distribution. Found in Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, the Guyanas, Bolivia and Trinidad.This nocturnal porcupine is solitary or lives in pairs in the branches of trees. They prefer to sleep in tangled vegetation among the treetops. The prehensile tail is used to curl around branches when climbing. Porcupines communicate via body posture, scent marking, sounds, and vocalizations.
