Lake Lucerne is an Alpine ridge in central Switzerland surrounded by mountains of the Alps. It is located in the cantons of Uri, Schwyz, Unterwalden (i.e. Nid- and Obwalden) and Lucerne. The biggest villages on the shore are Lucerne, Küssnacht, Horw and Brunnen. The lake is 114 km², at an altitude of 433 m. M. and is 214 m deep. Since it is a characteristic, multi-branch basin, the length of the shore is relatively large relative to the lake area (about 150 km).
