Created in 1903, the National Woman's Trade Union League fought for worker's rights and had branches in several major cities. Although it dissolved in the 1950's it became the core for the International Ladies' Garment Workers Union. “All we knew was the bitter fact that after working 70 or 80 hours in a seven-day week, we did not earn enough to keep body and soul together.” Pauline Newman, employee at the Triangle Shirtwaist Company from 1903 (at age 13) to 1909. She became a leader for the NWTUL and was in Philadelphia fighting for labor reform when the 1911 fire broke out at the factory.
