Barber - A time honored tradition 1941 Flyer
- from our Affiliates
Colorized photo from 1941 Original Title: Negro barber shop Location: Chicago, Ill, South side Our modern society is getting better at race relation, but in the past it wasn't really so. Back in the 1940's they divided rooms, bathrooms, buses, etc for black and white people. It never made much sense. If you wanted a hair cut, you would get it on a porch at your house. Often the barbers were black, and they would cut the hair of white folk, during the daytime. But at night, they tended to their black clientele, and it was really more of a social club. A place they can speak their mind and not get judged by others.
