This is an enlarged print of a map from an early auto guide book published in 1914. It covers the route from Redwood City and Palo Alto to San Jose. It includes some photos of landmarks including the old road house in Mountain View at El Camino and El Monte (now gone). The “Hamilton’s Illustrated Auto Roadmap” book had 200 strip maps of California and included small photos of landmarks along the way. In today’s world of super highways, the instructions on these maps seem comical but to the motor pioneer of 1914, they were very valuable. Published before the days of AAA books and guides. A fun reprint of automobile history!
