A real photo postcard by Sol M. Foster of Marine City, Mich., 1913, taken from the archives of Scenesfromthepast.net. The Whaleback Steamer ATIKOKAN washed ashore on the bank of the St. Clair River at Marine City, Michigan on August 17, 1913. A crowd gathers at this unusual sight. Famous Great Lakes photographer Louis Pesha kept his studio just beyond the beached ATIKOKAN . This whaleback was built in 1909 and was originally named the Str. JOHN B. TREVOR . She was renamed as the Str. ATIKOKAN in 1912 and operated until 1935, when she was scrapped.
