Ward Charcoal Ovens State Historic Park is located on the Egan Range 20 miles south of the town of Ely, NV. The six beehive shaped ovens were built to supply charcoal for the silver smelters of the town of Ward. The ovens were built by Italian carbonari in 1876. They were shut down after 3 years of service. The Italian masons did excellent work. The ovens were abandoned for more than 100 years. Prospectors, pastors and outlaws took shelter in the buildings.
