"The Death of the Green Fairy, Absinthe Prohibition in Switzerland" (1910)Albert Gantner Albert Gantner's famous print decrying the prohibition of absinthe in Switzerland, originally published in Le Guguss magazine. "Sirs, it is time!" it reads, "The Death of the Green Fairy, Absinthe Prohibition in Switzerland, 7th October 1910." A Nosferatu-like figure representing the temperance movement stands over the slain corpse of absinthe, at whose side lay wreaths from the Swiss cantons and from individual freedom itself. In the background vigorous figures swearing the legendary oath of the Old Swiss Confederacy contrast with a more decrepit personification of the country in 1910.
