Aprons such as this one are worn by the staff of the world famous and entirely mythical Polka Dot Zebra pub in England. It features a tiled rendering of the pub's namesake polka-dotted, brown zebra on a blue background. Zebras are not always born with black and white stripes, There are a number of mutations which can can cause variations on colour and form. In 2020 a young, "polka dot" Plains Zebra (Equus quagga), nicknamed Tira, was discovered in Kenya's Masai Mara National Reserve. Tira's unusual appearance is the result of a rare mutation called pseudomelanism. Tira was the inspiration for our Polka Dot Zebra, an artist's conception of an adult animal with this colour variation.
