Clivia miniata is a wonderful shade-loving plant. Its bright orange flowers are guaranteed to lighten any part of a shady corner of the tropical, sub tropical and warm temperate garden. They need a frost-free climate to grow well. Clivias are named after Lady Clive the Duchess of Northumberland, whose grandfather was the famous Clive of India. They are evergreen perennials from low-lying woodland areas, often by streams, and are distributed widely in eastern South Africa.
