The Horseshoe Crab is an ancient arthropod pre-dating dinosaurs at approximately 240 to 480 million years ago. Although they are generally thought of as a crustacean, as their name would suggest (crab), however, they are actually more closely related to arachnids (spiders). The pictured Atlantic Horseshoe Crab ranges up and down North America's Atlantic coast and coastal Gulf of Mexico.
