The Wilson's Phalarope is a bit different than most bird where the females are more colorful than males, the females defend the males during breeding season and the males care for the chicks. It is a shorebird, found in the western United States, Mexico, Central America and western South America. The artist, John James Audubon, painted the Wilson's Phalarope during the early 1800's using watercolor paints and pen-and-ink.
