WWII Pillbox in Dutch Harbor Alaska Poster Affiliate icon

Pillboxes like this one were used in WWII as shelters for service men to defend the beaches of the Aleutian Islands from invasion. This pillbox is one of the few remaining in its original position on the west beach of Dutch Harbor, Alaska. In the background Hog Island and beyond that, the Makushin mountains of Unalaska Island can be seen. Dutch Harbor was the center of operations for the Campaign of the Aleutians in Alaska during WWII.
