Michelangelo Madonna and Child Christmas Card
Michelangelo Madonna and Child with St John the Baptist and Angels about 1497. Detail. Unfinished ... Known intention was to paint the Virgin's robes Lapis Lazuli Blue. I colorized Her robe blue. I also, here, made Mary's coloring more like the finished angels. I think that I did both these things rather well. I hope Michelangelo would agree. Angels read the scroll Ecce Agnus Dei (Behold the Lamb of God) associated with St John the Baptist. Mary holds the book away from Christ as it was the prophecy in Isaiah 53 of Christ's future sacrifice and His taking unto Himself the evil of the World. A wonderful work sadly unfinished. Detail. This shows off my computer colorization of the robe Black and White undercoat to its intended Lapis Lazuli over coat and my computer enhancement from the grey tones undercoat of Mary's face to the more intended finished look. I think Michelangelo would be proud. www.zazzle.com/markewesterfield 2024
