kanji 1000 Character Classic 02 Reisho Poster
千字文 (Senjimon / せんじもん / The Thousand Character Classic) was used in ancient China as a textbook for Chinese characters and a model for calligraphy. That was conveyed to Japan. ＊This is the 隷書(れいしょ / Reisho) of 小野鵞堂 (おの がどう/Ono Gadō) , a master of calligraphy who was active during the Meiji and Taishō periods. Note:The characters are reconstructed and vectorized from the National Diet Library Digital Collections public domain data, and they are not accurately reproduced. ＊The meaning of Chinese poetry : 天地玄黃(てんち げんこう/ tenchi genkō) 宇宙洪荒(うちゅう こうこう/ uchū kōkō) Heaven is dark and the earth is yellow, the universe is wide and vast. ＊日月盈昃(じつげつ えいしょく/ jitsugetsu eishoku) 辰宿列張(しんしゅく れっちょう/ shinsyuku retchō) The sun leans to the west, and the moon rises and falls. Constellations spread in rows.
