Elizabeth I was queen of England from November 17, 1558 until her death on March 24, 1603. She was the daughter of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn and became queen at the age of 25. Elizabeth's reign is known as the Elizabethan era, famous for English drama, led by playwrights such as William Shakespeare and Christopher Marlowe, and for the seafaring prowess of English adventurers such as Francis Drake. This portrait in known as the “Darnley Portrait.” It was painted around 1575. The painter of this famous portrait is unknown.
