Walter "Walt" Whitman (1819 – 1892) was known as the Father of Free Verse. He was an American poet and writer, a humanist and one of the most influential poets in American history. His most famous piece was Leaves of Grass which was classed as obscene at the time due to it's adult nature. This drawing of Walt Whitman shows him as a young man in the prime of his life.
