Calculated intensity distribution behind a double slit illuminated by a plane monochromatic, fully coherent X-ray wave with a wavelength of 0.25 nm, i.e., a photon energy of E=5 keV. The opening of each slit is 2.5 µm. The spacing between the two slits is 10 µm. (center-to-center). The horizontal image coordinate corresponds to the distance behind the slit (along the optical axis). The propagation distances shown range from 1 to 500 mm. The width of a single pixel (in the full-resolution 2000-pixel-wide image) corresponds to a propagation distance of 0.25 mm. The vertical image coordinate corresponds to the transverse position. The vertical field of view of the image is 60 µm. The height of each pixel (in the full-resolution 1500-pixel-high image) is 40 nm. The simulation of the wavefront propagation was performed with the XWFP propagation code (T. Weitkamp, Proceedings SPIE 5536 (2004) 181-189), using a Fresnel propagation kernel in paraxial approximation.
