Eugène Samuel Grasset, 1845 – 1917, was a French illustrator, decorative artist and printmaker of Swiss birth who worked in Paris, France in a variety of creative design fields during the Belle Époque. While in his twenties, he devoted himself to painting and sculpture; after moving to Paris, he went on to design fabrics and ceramics, as well as jewelry. His decorative talent made him one of the outstanding contributors to the Art Nouveau movement and was considered a pioneer in Art Nouveau design.
