If General Burnside crossed the Rappahannock River first Lee would be forced to defend Richmond from the south side of the North Anna River. However, Lee thought Burnside was moving too slowly, giving him a chance to move further north and thus further from Richmond. After reviewing a map he anticipated Burnside was going to attempt a crossing near Fredericksburg and so he directed his divided army to come together as rapidly as possible at that point. This calendar includes partial or complete quotes from correspondence issued during the course of the battle and after-action reports from the generals that were there. These quotes are placed in the calendar in as close to chronological order as possible, given the fluidity of the battle. Also included are vintage photographs of the generals, which have been carefully researched and colorized. A complete Credit Page on the back of the calendar describes where the photos and quotes came from. Also included is information on how to get a copy of the colorized photos in the form of photographs, posters and other products.
