"Loveland Pass Sign, Colorado" by Catherine Sherman. Loveland Pass is a high mountain pass in north-central Colorado, at an elevation of 11,990 feet (3,655 m) above sea level in the Rocky Mountains. The pass is located on the Continental Divide in the Front Range, west of Denver on U.S. Highway 6 (US 6). Loveland is the highest mountain pass in Colorado that regularly stays open during a snowy winter season. The highway is steep, with a steady 6.7% grade, along with numerous hairpin turns on either side, make it difficult to snowplow the road regularly during the winter.
