Postcard inspired by an eye-catching dragon from a medieval bestiary. Medieval bestiaries presented stories about all kind of creatures, some well-known and others only heard of. The images were often very decorative and lavishly illuminated in gold. The dragon was seen as the most powerful of God's creatures, it could even battle an elephant to death. Its most dangerous weapon was the tail. It was thought to to lurk in hiding and then strangle its victims with the tail. This dragon seems to scream as it prepares to attack its prey. The bestiaries also imparted with some moral lessons. The dragon is likened to the devil, it was just as dangerous and deceitful! If you would like to find the original image, look for: A dragon. Franco-Flemish manuscript, circa 1270.
