First wave feminist Elizabeth Cady Stanton was a founding member of the suffragette movement. She didn't live to see the 19th Amendment passed, although she gave her life to women's liberation and the rights of women to vote. Women of America owe her an enormous debt, along with all her sister feminists who fought, struggled and finally succeeded to free women from subjugation by the husbands and begin the feminist movement. The slogan "Nevertheless, she persisted," can be attributed to her and strong women everywhere, who persist even today to maintain and gain more equality and rights for women.
