Plate 81 Common American Deer, fawn (Cervus Virginianus) (White-tailed Deer - Odocoileus virginianus) from The Viviparous Quadrupeds of North America by John James Audubon. The first animal names are the common and Latin (scientific) from Audubon's plates, followed by any modern common and/or Latin names. This image was scanned at very high resolution directly from the original book, The Viviparous Quadrupeds of North America by naturalist and painter John James Audubon (published in sections between 1845 and 1848 as a series). It has then been edited, cropped, sharpened and enhanced as needed for large scale format and use. The 150 hand colored life-size watercolors in the original portfolio, reproduced from hand-engraved plates, are all available here. While some of the original flaws form the old print will remain, this is one of the best versions of this artwork available. If you cannot find the image or plate you want please contact me through this store (Zephyrus Books) and I will be sure to get it posted for you.
