A kaleidoscope of jewel-toned flora and fauna that swirls and climbs, enveloping an ancient, twisted tree. An oil on canvas from 1919. Joseph Stella was known more for his industrial subjects with an occasional surprise of beautiful floral art or a colorful bird. His work is described as part of the Futurism and Precision movement that was a kind of bridge from Art Deco movement into the more modern abstract movement of early American modern art and cubism.
