One of the most popular paintings by the British artist Arthur Wardle. Wardle depicts a beautiful young woman in an enchanted sleep in the forest. Completed in 1895 and based on an 1813 tale by Sir Walter Scott's "The Bridal of Triermain" that recounts the journey of a knight who seeks to rescue a beautiful maiden, Gyneth, the illegitimate daughter of King Arthur who was doomed by Merlin 500 years previously to an enchanted sleep inside a magic castle. For more original works based on long forgotten poems and stories see the SalvageScapes collection FORGOTTEN TALES
