An exceptional piece of early colorful "modern" sports art done by the French artist Robert Delaunay in the early 1900s. This painting is from a series of several versions known as "The Cardiff Team". The theme was drawn from a newspaper photograph fo the Cardiff-Paris rugby sports match and each version portrays the athletes in the front playing the game. Other elements added by Delaunay are the famous Paris ferris wheel beside the Eiffel Tower along with the "Astra" billboard representing a large paid advertisment at the game from a major aircraft construction company.
