Though sometimes called the "Empire State of the South", Georgia's official nickname is "The Peach State". No wonder. Georgia is the Number One producer of peanuts, pecans and peaches. The Cherokee Rose, lovely and fragrant, has a sad tale associated with it. A tragic event, in 1838, in which thousands of Cherokee were forced out of Georgia and other lands east of the Mississippi River. The path taken by Native Americans has been called the “Trail of Tears” because of the tears shed by Cherokee women on the journey and because of the number of Native Americans that died along the way. Chiefs, they say, prayed for a sign to give their women hope. It is said that wherever a tear dropped, a Cherokee Rose bloomed. The flowers continue to bloom along the path today. Georgia became the 4th state in 1788. As one of our "older" states, it's surprising that the state song, "Georgia On My Mind" was adopted in 1979 and the official state flag only dates back to 2003. For all it's rich history, good and bad, Georgia is home to one of the most contemporary cities in the country: Atlanta. Atlanta is also the birthplace of Coca-Cola. This delightful design pays homage to this beautiful state. The state outline is filled with the lovely white blooms of the Cherokee Rose. This is layered with the yellow gold "Georgia". Though offered on a standard tank top, there are numerous styles from which you may select your favorite.
