The actual line is “Nothing pays off like restraint of tongue and pen” from page 91 of the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions as they talk about Step 10: “Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.” These days, it’s wise to add keyboard to tongue and pen to keep us from sending that accusatory email we can’t take back.
