Houdan chickens have a fancy leaf-shaped comb, beard, and five toes on each foot. Also known as the Poule de Houdan, it is is an old French breed of domestic chicken. The Houdan is named for its area of origin, the commune of Houdan, which is in the département of Yvelines, west of Paris. This artwork is based on an original vintage botanical illustration, made available by to the Flickr Commons via the Biodiversity Heritage Library's open access collection. It has painterly watercolor effects applied with some slight cropping.
