Flowers pop up in the Gilkey Trench on the Juneau Icefield in Alaska. The spectacular valley is fed by the Vaughan Lewis Icefall visible in the background. The students on the Juneau Icefield Research Program (JIRP) spend the summer studying the glaciers, geology, and flora of the icefield. The Juneau Icefield Research Program is a nonprofit educational foundation that teaches students about the earth sciences and in particular how they relate to the Juneau Icefield in Southeast Alaska that is inside the Tongass National Forest.
