Repro Rare Belgian Art Nouveau Butterfly Floral Ceramic Tile
- from our Affiliates
This is a reproduction of one of the most prized tiles in our collection. It was made by around 1900 by the Ste Anonyme Faïencerie de Saint-Ghislain in Belgium. The Faïencerie opened in 1892 with a staff of 23. By 1906, it's reputation and the popularity of its ceramics grew to the point that the factory provided work for 206 employees. This tile features an aerial view of a butterfly above a lily over a lily pad in a bold yet delicate stylized design in soft shades of aqua, white, gold, and green as foils to the bright fuchsia, orange, peacock and black of the butterfly.
