De Morgan (1839-1917) was an important Arts & Crafts movement artist and was the head of tile production at William Morris's studio. His work was influenced by Persian and Islamic art and featured stylized flora and fauna from both life and fantasy. This is one of his earlier designs from the late 1800s.This is one of two tiles designed to be used as alternating pairs with one facing down and one facing up.
