Telling Herstory: Lucy Burns - Burns was a driving force behind the picketing of the White House , beginning in January 1917. She was one of the first pickets arrested. The arrests began as “obstruction of traffic†but the women were political prisoners. Truly dedicated to the movement, Burns served more time in jail than any other suffragist in America.
