Everyone has their own reasons for staying masked or disregarding it, even though they may be fully vaccinated (2-3 weeks after last Covid Vaccination) after CDC's updated guidelines in late May 2021. However, as a mother to two young daughters ages 6 and 2, my oldest with Type 1 diabetes (autoimmune disease, insulin dependent), I feel I must still set a good example for them while keeping them safe until they're able to get fully vaccinated too in the Fall of 2021. Per medical studies listed on JAMA Network by JDRF and American Diabetes Association, those with T1d are 3-4 x at higher risk to severe Covid illness and/or hospitalization than those without any type of diabetes. Furthermore, it isn't like we can just randomly ask someone disregarding social distancing and masks (mandates dropping in CA on June 15, 2021), “Hey, are you fully vaccinated? Then, please keep your distance from my family.
