Glacier-clad peaks interspersed with extensive alpine meadows are surrounded by an extensive old growth forest, among which is the best example of intact and protected temperate rainforest in the Pacific Northwest. The Olympic Mountains are a mountain range on the Olympic Peninsula. A large portion of the range is contained within the Olympic National Park. Seven Lakes Basin is a basin located in Olympic National Park. Despite the name, there are actually 8 small lakes in the area. While the basin itself has a barren, lunar landscape it is surrounded by old-growth forest and alpine meadows lush with wildflowers and blueberries. Black Bears, mountain goats, marmots and Olympic Elks are common in this area.
