this beautiful set of maidens portraying the 4 seasons splendidly is the handy work of Alfons Maria Mucha 1860-1939 who is best known as Alphonse Mucha the father of Art Nouveau painting. He was a Chech artist known best for his very bold distinct style, especially his advertisements. He was a prolific artist and produced many paintings, illustrations, advertisements, postcards, and designs as well as designs for jewelry, carpets, wallpaper, & theatre sets in what became known as Art Nouveau. Mucha's works frequently featured beautiful young women in flowing vaguely neoclassical looking robes, as seen here often surrounded by lush flowers which sometimes formed haloes behind the women’s heads. " The Four Seasons " circa 1900, shown here is his 3rd set of decorative panels in the series and it became one of his most popular series artworks. It was so popular in fact that he was asked to produce at least two more sets based on the same theme. designs for a further two more sets also exist but were never completed.
