- from our Affiliates
Many years after the end of the American Civil War, Supreme Court justice Oliver Wendell Holmes reminisced about his service as a young soldier in the Union Army in his famous “In Our Youth Our Hearts Were Touched by Fire†speech. The title of this poster was taken from Holmes' speech as features a beautifully sensitive photographic portrait of an African American cavalry sergeant taken during the Civil War. The image comes from the Liljenquist Family Collection in the Library of Congress and is used here with permission. A perfect item for Civil War historian and reenactors, school classroom and commemorating Black History Month.
