The Slingerland Coat of Arms on this mug is a photograph of the original which is made of wood. The original was purchased at auction in Amsterdam, Holland on February 16, 1896 from Frederick Muller & Co. with a description of "Von Slingerlandt Ecusson en bois seulpte; de sable a deux faces bretessees et contrebretessees d argent, 28x28 centimetres" or "escutcheon of carved wood; black with two silver es bretessees and counter-bretessees" We believe this was purchased at auction by William H. Slingerland. The letter accompanying this Coat of Arms is signed by Geo. W. Siclen, founder of The Holland Society of New York. All proceeds from this sale will be used toward the restoration and preservation of the Slingerland Family Burial Vault by the Friends of the Slingerland Family Burial Vault.
