Image taken in May of '08, from the home garden. For those who may not know, the Lilac bush offers it's wonderfully scented blooms for about two weeks in early spring. Butterflies, birds and other garden creatures enjoy frequenting these blossoms often during this time. The natural beauty such a bush possesses can transform a yard area to one of exceptional beauty and offers it's own garden enchantment. Lilacs originated from Europe and Asia, with the majority of natural varieties coming from Asia. In Europe, lilacs came from the Balkans, France and Turkey. It is said they were grown in America's first botanical gardens and were popular in New England. Both George Washington and Thomas Jefferson grew them in their gardens.
