In heaven all the interesting people are missing. A casual stroll through the lunatic asylum shows that faith does not prove anything. Christianity makes suffering contagious. I cannot believe in a God who wants to be praised all the time. Ah, women. They make the highs higher and the lows more frequent. The world is beautiful, but has a disease called man. After coming into contact with a religious man I always feel I must wash my hands. Become who you are. You must have chaos within you to give birth to a dancing star. In individuals, insanity is rare; but in groups, parties, nations, and epochs it is the rule. The higher we soar, the smaller we appear to those who cannot fly. To forget one's purpose is the commonest form of stupidity. One should not go into church if one wants to breathe pure air. God is a thought who makes crooked all that is straight. Convictions are more dangerous enemies of truth than lies. In the beginning was nonsense, and the nonsense was with God, and the nonsense was God. The Christian resolution to find the world ugly and bad has made the world ugly and bad. Is it better to out-monster the monster or to be quietly devoured? I know of no better life purpose than to perish in attempting the great and the impossible.... Freedom is the will to be responsible to ourselves. Your god is dead and only the ignorant weep. And if you claim there is a hell, then we shall meet there! All truly great thoughts are conceived while walking. Every past is worth condemning. The doer alone learneth. That which does not kill us makes us stronger. Of all that is written, I love only what a person has written with his own blood. It is my ambition to say in ten sentences what others say in a whole book. Gods too decompose. God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. One should die proudly when it is no longer possible to live proudly. To make the individual uncomfortable, that is my task. When we are tired, we are attacked by ideas we conquered long ago. A thought, even a possibility, can shatter and transform us. He who has a why can endure any how. If you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you. Great intellects are skeptical. In every real man a child is hidden that wants to play. One is not free to become a Christian. One must be sick enough for it. In Christianity neither morality nor religion come into contact with reality at any point. The advantage of a bad memory is that one enjoys several times the same good things for the first time. Without music, life would be a mistake.... I would only believe in a God who knew how to dance. A subject for a great poet would be God's boredom after the seventh day of creation. Shared joys make a friend, not shared sufferings. Nothing ever succeeds which exuberant spirits have not helped to produce. He who writes in blood and aphorisms does not want to be read, he wants to be learned by heart. Art is the proper task of life. I am not a man; I am dynamite. There is not enough love and goodness in the world for us to be permitted to give any of it away to imaginary beings. Man is the cruelest animal. Reevaluate all values.
