A good friend told me this saying when I was fifteen, and had just undergone the first surgery of many. It helped me to see my scars in a different way, and I have never forgotten it. I hope that this saying can be passed on to you, or someone that you care about so that he/she can begin to find a path to recovery as well. Scars are nothing to be ashamed of, in fact, they can be a visual reminder of what you have overcome!
