Fenrir is a wolf monster in Old Norse mythology. In the Prose Edda, it is said that the Norse gods bound him, and as a result Fenrir bit off the right hand of the god Týr. John Bauer was a Swedish painter and illustrator from Sweden who drew many illustrations for children's books and fairy tales in the late 19th and early 20th century. He did this work in 1911.
