St Michael the Archangel M 009 EMSEMT Postcard Affiliate icon

St. Michael the Archangel is patron saint of law enforcement and emergency services personnel. + Feast: September 29 + The Biblical text on the scroll is, of course, taken from the story of the Good Samaritan. The Samaritan's actions essentially conform to the six main tasks executed by rescuers: detection, reporting, response, on scene care, care in transit, and transfer to definitive care--the very tasks symbolized by the six branches of the Star of Life, the emblem of Emergency Medical Care Services. The Biblical passage is quoted from the American Standard Version (ASV), which is in the public domain. + Image Credit (M 009): Antique image of St. Michael the Archangel from a very early nineteenth-century hand-colored devotional print (N: 64) etched by F. Pischet, Linz, Austria, from the designer's private collection of religious ephemera. + Image Credit (Scroll): Remix of Hand Written Note by j4p4n, Openclipart, Creative Commons Zero 1.0 Public Domain License. + Image Credit (Flowers): Aster Conspicuus by Gerald_G, Openclipart, Creative Commons Zero 1.0 Public Domain License. The line drawing of the flowers has been colorized to match the image of St. Michael in style and hues. The Aster Conspicuus is the American "cousin" of the Aster Amellus, the European Michaelmas Daisy.
