St Andrew the Apostle and the Flag of Scotland Gift Box Affiliate icon

Among his many patronages, St. Andrew is the national patron of Scotland. Here, a pensive St. Andrew, clad in a white robe and blue mantle, leans on a large, wooden x-shaped cross or saltire which was the instrument of his martyrdom c. 70. Behind him is the blue and white Scottish Flag—the St. Andrew’s Cross or The Saltire—which is the oldest national flag in the British Commonwealth and the oldest in Europe. + Feast: November 30 + Image Credit (P 006): Figure extracted from an antique image of St. Andrew the Apostle from a late 19th-century devotional print in chromoxylography, originally published by Friedrich Pustet, Regensburg, New York, and Cincinnati. From the designer’s private collection of religious ephemera. + Image Credit (Flag): Flag of Scotland, Public Domain, Wiki Commons.
