This Pompeii fresco, named Sappho, represents a beautiful young woman with a set of four wax tablets in her left hand (looking like a book) and a stylus in her right hand, touching her lips with it. Her curly hair is under a golden fillet. The ancient Roman tondo, dating from the 1st century (before 78 CE, the year of Pompeii's destruction), is now in the public domain.
