The mother orangutan featured here is Akmad, who appeared on the cover of NATIONAl GEOGRAPHIC magazine over thirty years ago. (If you do a search for October 1975's National Geographic and see the cover--Akmad is the little one on the ground in front of Dr. Birute Galdikas) Today Akmad lives in the rain forest, raising her own babies such as the little on her back here.
