If our spiritual siblings in the East can reaffirm their deep ancestral traditions, then why can we in the West not do the same? Although our occidental polytheism was forced further underground, just consider the parallels: both sides have traditions ranging from the orgiastic to the ascetic and everything in between, from the minimalistic to the intricately philosophical and everything in between. Both grew organically over the aeons and absorbed innumerable influences, both have served as the seedbed for lush aesthetic expressions, and both offer an attractive alternative to politicized, over-controlling, monistic traditions. They even have many common roots, both archetypal and historical, and had many exchanges during the Classical and Hellenistic eras—for example, just consider the ivory statuette of Lakshmi found in Pompeii and the Grecian influences on Indian sculpture. Truly the western Pagan revival can learn much from the fortitude of India!
